Philips trimmer

In the third year of my education, I got at project from Phillips. The goal of this project was to design a Philips hair trimmer, to create a new product with a perfect fade option.

The most difficult task was to create a new system that made the perfect fade option work. At first I had to sketch different ideas and finally I converted the ideas to concepts. After this fase I had to materialize the concepts and worked out some models in Solidworks.

A new skill I learned was surface modeling the whole body of the trimmer with a smooth and clean surface. After modeling the body in Solidworks, the construction and the assembly of the trimmer were thought- and worked out.

Designing the user manual with actual detailed sketches of a person’s head, were new subjects to me. Another new subject was to sketch the interaction between people and a product. The goal was to make the use of the product clear and understandable for the customer.

Another task that I completed during this project, was to calculate the complete cost price of the trimmer. Molds, machine cost and other cost were included.
When finished, I tried to reduce the cost price by reducing the number of parts and replacing exclusive parts by standard purchase parts.
